Steve flipped the computer monitor off, pitching the screen into abrupt darkness. He was about to get up and go through the motions of doing something productive -- feed the cats, maybe? -- when his housemate entered the room.

His housemate's up though.. damn alarm - and those cats. meowing since before 5, scratching at the door, wanting attention, food, or to get into anything. Steve and his housemate find them annoying. but love em anyhow. They won't leave.

The alarm went off for the third time, finally waking Steve up. He cursed silently, realizing that the alarm probably woke up his housemate as well as him three hours early. Steve forgot to turn off the alarm yet again.

After getting out of bed, he trudged slowly over to his computer hoping for some social contact only to find no one around. After all, who's up at 6:30 in the morning on the weekend?
